Happily Ever After: The Top Things to Do After Your Wedding

You’ve said “I do” and celebrated your love with family and friends – yay!  After the whirlwind of your wedding day, you might be overwhelmed just thinking about all of those post-wedding must-dos. To help you navigate this transitional phase, we’ve put together a checklist to guide you in prioritizing these tasks, while recognizing that not everything is essential and you should prioritize what is best for you as a couple.

Check Your Honeyfund

While you can redeem the funds in your Honeyfund Wallet at any point before or after your big day, it’s a practical and exciting task to tackle early. If your guests contributed to your Honeyfund, consider converting your thoughtful gifts into cash—enjoy the flexibility of transferring it to PayPal, Venmo, or gift cards* (available to US couples only) without paying any fees. This way, you can make the most of your generous gifts.

Settle Outstanding Payments and Tip Vendors

This is a top priority. Your wedding vendors played a crucial role in making your day special. Take the time to settle any outstanding payments and consider showing your appreciation by tipping them for their hard work. There’s a bit of a gray area when it comes to tipping wedding vendors, so this is totally up to you—nonetheless, it’s a thoughtful gesture!

Decide What to Do with Your Dress

Your wedding dress is a symbol of your special day, and deciding what to do with it can be a difficult decision. But you have options! You can preserve it, donate it, sell it, or even have it redesigned into a new piece of clothing.

Preservation: If you opt to preserve it, most experts recommend getting this done as soon as possible after your wedding to prevent stains from setting.

Selling: If you don’t have any use for your dress sitting in your house as a memento, consider selling it instead. Consider listing it on Facebook marketplace, Poshmark or bringing it to a local consignment store. Just make sure to clean and repair any damages as soon as possible after your wedding and before listing your dress to maximize its resale value.

Donating: Donating your wedding dress can be a great way to give you dress a second life, especially if you didn’t break the bank when you bought it. Organizations like Brides Across America accept wedding dress donations they gift to military and first responder wives!

Repurposing: Some brides get creative and repurpose their wedding dress into something new and meaningful, like christening gowns for their children, quilts, or even pieces of art. You could work with a talented seamstress or artisan to transform your dress into a unique keepsake. Or have it altered and dyed to turn it into a dress you wear at future formal occasions, like friends’ weddings or your own anniversary!

Do Something with Your Bouquet

If you’re feeling sentimental about your wedding bouquet, there are several creative ways to preserve those beautiful blooms, turning them into lasting keepsakes. If you’ve saved your bouquet after the wedding, visit this task a month or two after your big day. Frame Bouquet Preservation: Transform your bouquet into a stunning piece of art that you can cherish forever. Seek out artists who specialize in framing your pressed flowers. This method beautifully displays your bouquet in a shadow box or frame, preserving the essence of your special day.

Resin Coasters: For a functional and decorative keepsake, consider having your wedding flowers turned into resin coasters or a decorated tray. Many talented artists on platforms like Etsy offer this service, giving your  flowers a practical purpose in your daily life.

Watercolor Painting: If you’re willing to part with the physical flowers but still want a heartfelt memento, a custom watercolor painting is a thoughtful alternative. This artistic representation can capture the essence and colors of your bouquet, creating a piece of art that will remind you of your wedding day for years to come.

Consider Merging Finances

While money might not be the most romantic topic, it is crucial for building a strong foundation in your relationship. Managing finances as a couple can be both beneficial and challenging, but it’s a conversation worth having early on. Combining finances with your partner can simplify managing household expenses and create a common budget while providing insights into each other’s financial habits. However, it’s equally crucial to openly communicate about spending, debts, and financial standing.

While a joint bank account is a practical step, it doesn’t mean merging all assets is necessary. Some may need to stay separate, and this decision is often made through prenuptial agreements, especially when safeguarding family assets is a concern. In the end, the key to a successful financial partnership lies in transparent and honest communication, ensuring that money doesn’t become a source of conflict in your relationship.

Finish Your Registry

According to wedding etiquette, your guests have up to a year to choose a gift from your registry. Whether your Honeyfund was full of unique items or you didn’t have enough time to build it out as much as you’d like, it’s worthwhile to revisit your registry and expand it. Ensure that there’s a diverse selection of items at various price points to accommodate your guests. Don’t forget that every gift you receive converts into cash in your Honeyfund Wallet, which can be seamlessly transferred to PayPal, Venmo, or loaded onto a variety of gift cards with zero fees. This way, you can truly make the most of your thoughtful gifts

Consider Changing Your Name

Getting married marks a significant life change, and one decision you might be considering is whether to change your last name. It’s a personal choice that can take some time, but with careful planning, it can be a smoother process. Before diving into the name change process, have an open discussion with your partner and decide whether you want to change your last name or keep your current one. This is a personal decision, and doesn’t need to be done right away after the wedding, so choose what feels right for you.If you do decide to change your name, consider using a service like Easy Name Change to streamline the process.

Write Thank You Notes

Expressing gratitude is a must. Write heartfelt thank you notes to everyone who attended your wedding and gave you gifts within three months of your big day. Tip: do this early to get it done and crossed off your list. A handwritten note goes a long way in showing your appreciation.

Order Wedding Photos

To hold on to the magic of your wedding day, order wedding photos while the memories are still fresh. But here’s a tip: be mindful of the expenses when ordering prints; think about where you’ll display them, ensuring each photo has a special place in your heart and home.

You can also get imaginative with your photos, turning them into wall art, personalized thank-you cards, or even a custom calendar. Another trendy idea is to create a beautiful coffee table book to elegantly display your photos somewhere in plain sight.

Plan Your Honeymoon

It’s never too late to take a honeymoon. So if you haven’t had the chance to take your honeymoon yet, now’s the perfect time to start planning. Even if it’s a short weekend getaway, a honeymoon offers a wonderful opportunity to unwind and celebrate the beginning of your life together. But it’s more than just a trip; it’s a crucial step in building a successful marriage. Studies show that couples who go on a honeymoon tend to experience higher marital satisfaction in the long run. So, choose a destination that both of you will love and get ready to pack your bags for an adventure that promises unforgettable moments and a stronger bond for your future together

Set Goals for Your Marriage

After the wedding excitement, take time for a heart-to-heart with your partner about your dreams and goals as a couple. Share your individual dreams for your life together, whether it’s travel, family, or career achievements. Discuss both short-term and long-term goals, like saving for a dream vacation or planning for retirement, and create a practical plan with manageable steps and a timeline. But don’t forget to add some fun!  Plan adventures and trips that you can both look forward to in this new chapter as newlyweds.

The period following your wedding is a special time, marked by love, excitement, and new beginnings. These post-wedding tasks will help you transition smoothly into married life, allowing you to hold onto the memories of your big day while you build a beautiful future together.

Planning a honeymoon can be one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning. Many couples dream of a honeymoon filled with adventure, relaxation, and romance, but the costs associated with planning a dreamy getaway might make the trip feel unattainable. That’s where a honeymoon fund like Honeyfund comes in. In recent years, honeymoon funds have become an increasingly popular option for couples looking to get the most out of their honeymoon without breaking the bank. In fact, nearly 25% of couples who got married in 2021 registered for a honeymoon or other cash-based gift like a home down payment.

If you’re feeling unsure about how to explain the concept of a honeymoon fund or what to say to ask for contributions, don’t worry. We’re here to help! We’ll go over the basics of what a honeymoon fund is and why it’s a great option for many couples. We’ll also give you some tips on how to share your registry and communicate with your guests in a way that feels authentic and comfortable for you.

What is a honeymoon fund?

A honeymoon fund, like Honeyfund, is a modern take on traditional gift registries. Instead of asking for physical gifts, you create a registry for your honeymoon expenses, and your guests can contribute to it. The beauty of a honeymoon fund is that all the contributions turn into cash, giving you the freedom to spend the money as you see fit. Whether you want to use it for your honeymoon expenses or save it for a future goal, you decide! You read that right: you create a registry for your honeymoon, but you receive funds that can be used for your honeymoon expenses or any other savings goals.

Your honeymoon fund registry  can include everything from airfare to accommodations to activities. Instead of registering for physical gifts, you’re asking your guests to contribute to a shared experience that you’ll remember for a lifetime. A Honeyfund registry allows couples to have the honeymoon of their dreams without worrying about the financial burden. Plus, honeymoon funds can be a great option for couples who already have all the physical items they need for their home.

Ways to share your registry

Sharing your honeymoon fund with your guests is just as important as making the registry! In fact, our research has shown that couples who share their Honeyfund page with their friends and family are more than twice as likely to receive contributions. Here are some tips on how to share it effectively:

In your wedding invitations:

– Include a small card with your shower and wedding invitations that mentions your honeymoon fund and provides a link or a QR code to it. Print customized registry cards from your Honeyfund account.

– Add your registry details, including your Honeyfund URL or a QR code, printed on the back of your invitations.

– If you’re going the paperless route, include a hyperlink to your Honeyfund registry at the bottom of your digital invites.

– Consider including the link to your Honeyfund when you follow up with guests via email for RSVP reminders.

On your wedding website:

– If you’re using a wedding website, make sure you include the link to your Honeyfund page in addition to any other registries you choose to create.

– Make sure to include a personal message that explains why you’ve chosen a honeymoon fund and how the contributions will be used.

– Add photos or videos of your destination to help your guests visualize your trip.

– Don’t have a wedding website? You can also use your Honeyfund page as your full wedding website. Simply add all your relevant wedding details to your Honeyfund page, including ceremony, reception, guest accommodations and more.

On social media:

– Share a post on your social media accounts that mentions your Honeyfund and provides a link to it.

– Make sure to keep the message light and fun.

– Share photos of your engagement or your destination to create excitement among your friends and family.

Word of mouth:

– Bring up your honeymoon fund when talking to friends and family about your wedding.

– Explain why you’ve chosen a Honeyfund and how the contributions will be used.

– Encourage them to share the information with other wedding guests who may be interested in contributing towards your registry.

At your wedding:

Set up a sign at your wedding reception with a QR code that guests can scan to view your honeymoon registry. This can be placed near the gift table or near the guest book.

– During your wedding speech, take a moment to thank your guests for their attendance and thank them for their contributions to  your honeymoon registry. Explain why you chose this option and how much it means to you.

And don’t forget thank you cards! After you return from your honeymoon, be sure to send thank you notes to all who contributed to yourHoneyfund. You can even share details or pictures of what honeymoon experiences the guest contributed towards. Your friends and family will love to see how their contributions led to your lifelong memories!

When to share your registry

When it comes to timing, it’s best to share your registry when you send out your wedding invitations, typically around 3 to 4 months before your big day. This will give you plenty of time to accumulate contributions to get as many honeymoon expenses covered as you can. However, if you have a short engagement or are planning a last-minute honeymoon, you can always share it closer to the wedding. This is a great option, because guests don’t have to worry about ordering anything that has to get shipped. And it’s always great to remind guests of your honeymoon fund as it gets closer to your wedding day – typically 4-7 days before your wedding, included in any last-minute reminder communications you’re texting or e-mailing.

How to communicate your honeymoon fund to guests

Now that you’ve created your Honeyfund registry and know when and where you’re going to share it, it’s time to think about how to communicate your honeymoon fund to your guests. To start, make it personal. Explain why a honeymoon is important to you and how much their contribution means to you and your partner. Instead of asking guests to give you cash for your honeymoon, a Honeyfund is a great way to let guests know exactly what their contribution will go towards, whether it’s a specific experience or activity on your honeymoon or the overall trip cost.

Secondly, use polite language and provide clear instructions on how to contribute. Thank your guests in advance for their support and let them know that their contribution will make a difference and make sure you’re sharing a link to your honeymoon fund or let guests know how they can contribute directly.

Lastly, remember to be open to questions and to let guests know that any contribution is appreciated. Some guests—especially older friends and family—may not be familiar with the concept of a honeymoon fund, so be prepared to explain it to them and address any concerns they may have.

Examples of How To Word Your Honeymoon Fund Request

If you’re struggling with how to word your request for contributions towards your honeymoon fund, we’ve drafted up some examples to help you get started. Simply copy, paste and tweak the following messages for your invites and wedding website.

On your invites:

“Your presence is gift enough. But if you choose to give a gift, scan the QR code below to view our registry.”

“In lieu of traditional gifts, we kindly ask for contributions to our honeymoon fund.”

“Join us in creating unforgettable memories on our honeymoon. Check out our Honeyfund registry here.”

“We would be honored if you would consider contributing towards our memorable honeymoon. View our Honeyfund registry here.”

On your wedding website:

“As we start our journey together, we dream of a romantic honeymoon that we’ll cherish forever. We would be so grateful for your help in making it a reality.”

“We’ve been blessed with all that we need, so we’re asking for your help to create unforgettable memories on our honeymoon. We’re excited to share our adventures with you!”

“We’re looking forward to starting our married life with an amazing honeymoon experience. We’re grateful for your love and support as we make this dream come true.”

While we appreciate traditional registry gifts, we have decided to ask for contributions to our honeymoon instead. This trip will be an unforgettable experience for us as newlyweds, and we would love for you to be a part of it!

“First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes…the honeymoon! Any amount, big or small. To our Honeyfund will help us make our honeymoon a trip of a lifetime, filled with unforgettable memories.

We know that everyone has different circumstances, and we don’t want anyone to feel obligated to contribute. However, if you are looking for a way to show your love and support, we would be grateful for any contribution you can make towards our honeymoon.

With the right etiquette and clear communication, you can easily share your honeymoon fund with guests and make your dream honeymoon a reality. Honeyfund simplifies the process of creating, sharing, and managing your honeymoon fund, so you can focus on enjoying your dream honeymoon and making memories that will last a lifetime.

Wedding Planning Must-Do: Create a Wedding Hashtag

When it comes to wedding planning, it’s all about the details.  Even a seemingly small detail like your Honeyfund page URL can make a difference in your wedding guests’ experience. Customizing your Honeyfund ensures your friends and family  are more easily able to give you the experiences and items you need to make your dream honeymoon happen. While many couples simply use the default URL provided when creating an account, customizing your Honeyfund page URL can not only add a personal touch, it can make it easier for your wedding guests.

Why Should You Create a Wedding Hashtag?

A wedding hashtag can serve a few purposes, but first and foremost, it makes it easy for guests to share photos and memories of the big day on social media. It will also organize all of the photos that your guests take on your big day—just search for the hashtag and see all the pictures and messages from the day in one place.

Additionally, your wedding hashtag can be used in your Honeyfund page URL. A personalized URL is easier to remember, making it simple for guests to find your registry and purchase gifts. Plus, it can add a touch of personality and make the registry feel more like a reflection of you and your partner.

Customizing your wedding registry URL with your hashtag will also make it easier to share with guests. Creating a shorter, simpler URL makes it easier to include on save-the-date cards, invitations, and other wedding-related materials.

Tips for Creating a Wedding Hashtag

If you’re having trouble coming up with a wedding hashtag, here are a few tips to get you started:

– Keep it short and sweet. A long, complicated hashtag will be harder for guests to remember and type correctly when they’re searching for your Honeyfund page or adding to their captions on social media.

– Consider including your names or initials in your hashtag. This will make it more personal and memorable.

– Avoid using too many hyphens and numbers.

– Check your spelling.

– Add a word or phrase that is meaningful to you as a couple. For example, if you and your partner love to travel, you might include “wanderlust” or your honeymoon destination in your hashtag.

– Consider nicknames, puns or words unique to you and your partner!

– Don’t be afraid to get creative! Your wedding is a chance to celebrate your unique love story, so have fun with it.

Still having some writer’s block? Use the hashtag generator in your Honeyfund account. Use even consider using an AI generator, like ChatGPT.

How to Customize Your Wedding Registry URL

We’re all about making things easy for you, and customizing your registry URL is no exception! Once you’ve decided on your wedding hashtag, here are a few steps to help you include it in your custom Honeyfund URL.

– Log in to your Honeyfund account and navigate to the Share tab on your page.

– Click “Reset” and proceed to create a new URL. (Note: you’ll want to customize the URL before you’ve shared it with your guest or printed it on any of your wedding-related materials!)

– Enter your wedding hashtag into the box or hit the “refresh” button and we’ll generate some ideas for you!

– Once you’ve decided on one that you love, hit “save” to lock it in.

Now you’re well on your way to a big day that’s extra special, and filled with details as unique as you!

Registry Advice for Postponed Events

We can already tell that 2021 and 2022 are looking to be record celebration years, with all the postponed weddings and events sliding onto our calendars.  We’ve also seen a huge variety of festivities crop up on social media and wedding blogs — it’s been nothing short of amazing! Whether you’ve delayed your whole wedding or re-envisioned it as a “Wedding-After” Party or an “Anniversary Reception,” the etiquette surrounding gift-giving and registry can seem like completely uncharted territory. Don’t worry—we can help you navigate with our registry advice. Keep reading, and we’ll address some of the common questions couples are asking.

Will guests still want to give gifts?

The short answer is yes! Plenty of guests will likely want to give gifts to celebrate your marriage and support you.

The longer answer has a lot of factors. The traditional custom of gift-giving allows your loved ones to show their love and support in a tangible way. Many people are aching for ways to show love right now, and a wedding—or anniversary—gift is an easy way to do it. Other guests may not be at a place financially where they can give right now, or they may be confused about the etiquette. It’s okay; this is a new situation for everyone.

Our best advice is to make the option to give available with a registry. Let your guests feel empowered to decide what and how to give. Registries provide them with the security of knowing what you would find useful without having to guess or ask awkwardly.

What’s the right way to give guests the option to give?

Instead of assuming guests won’t want to give any gifts—and to save yourself the headache of being asked tons of times—we recommend adding a honeyfund link to your wedding website. Don’t have a wedding website? Luckily, your honeyfund can do the trick!

Some guests, especially older family members, may consider it rude to directly mention the registry in your invite. But you can get around that by printing the web address of your honeyfund or wedding website on an insert and including it with the invitation.  That way they have the info if they want to give a gift.

You can also always use the age-old tactic of “word of mouth.” Let your immediate family and close friends know that it’s okay to spread the word. If you still have a wedding shower coming up, that’s a great avenue for your inner circle to help let your other guests know important details, like how to find your registry.

What about guests who already gave gifts?

Some guests may have already given gifts around your original wedding date, and they may choose to give again or not. Your guests’ decisions will likely depend on their social cultures surrounding weddings. Some communities expect to give a wedding shower gift, plus money for the wedding. Others only plan to give one gift. It’s 100% up to your guests whether they decide to gift a second time. Some people may surprise you!

What should I include on my honeyfund?

Honeymoons are still happening! The travel industry is gearing up for more adventures and excitement than ever, which means you’ll likely be able to get some fantastic deals on great experiences. Even if you aren’t able to take your honeymoon for a while, guests love knowing they’re giving you the gift of unforgettable memories. Plus, traveling together is one of the most fun ways to build up and strengthen your relationship.

If you’ve already planned for your honeymoon because of the non-traditional timeline, you can always choose something else. Consider including gift cards or funds that let friends and family members invest in your future together. Here are some gift card ideas that guests have loved on other couples’ honeyfunds:

  • Helping you build your best home together, courtesy of a home improvement store near you
  • Investing in your love together with romantic date nights at your favorite restaurants
  • Upgrading household items with major brands that make daily life easier and more enjoyable

Honeyfund has all the tools you need to make your registry easy to use—for both you and your guests. We’ll walk you through every step of the process. And you can always find registry advice, support and tips on our blog!

Registry Items We Recommend When You’re Dreaming of a Honeymoon

When it comes to registering for wedding gifts, it can be confusing as to what you should add. If you’re like most of our couples, you really want to go on an epic honeymoon. And that can bring a whole new level of confusion – especially when you do want some household items.

The perfect combo (in our opinion) is to make your Honeyfund your main registry and then link a Bed, Bath & Beyond registry for your small list of household items. Read through the end for a $100 gift in MyFunds Rewards from Bed, Bath & Beyond..

Whether you’ve been living together prior to marriage or not, your household could likely use a few upgrades that make for perfect wedding gifts (especially for those guests who are more old-fashioned). This is why we love Bed, Bath & Beyond. Their inventory is stocked perfectly for newly married couples.

A few things we suggest adding that you might not have thought of are hosting supplies/party items, longevity items, and kitchen upgrades. Here are the items the experts at Bed, Bath & Beyond recommend:

With times changing fast, Bed, Bath & Beyond Registry continues to be a Honeyfund favorite for household items. We’re especially loving their newest feature — ‘Ship or Swap’.

We’ve got the lowdown on how it works, but the basic idea is this: When you create your registry and decide to use Ship or Swap, you have even more control over what you receive as gifts.  Read to the end for a special offer for new registry sign ups.

Enable Ship or Swap

First thing’s first, once your Bed, Bath & Beyond registry is created, you’ll want to navigate to your registry view. From there, click on Edit Registry Settings and scroll down to Ship or Swap.

Here, you’ll click Enable.

Registry and Receive Gifts

Before sharing your registry, you’ll want to add all the items you’d like. (Don’t be afraid to add big-ticket items, the group gift features has you covered.) Here’s what couples are loving for some inspiration.

Once you’ve added your registry items and linked your new Bed Bath & Beyond Registry to your Honeyfund, it’s time to sit back and wait. Guests will begin to pick out gifts and go through the purchase process as they normally would.

Gifts Become MyFunds

If the guest chose to ship directly to you when they went through the purchase process, those monies are then loaded directly into your My Funds account. The amount will include applicable discounts, taxes and shipping costs. (Note: Any gift purchased in and carried away from a store, ordered online for store pickup, or ordered online and shipped to an address other than the registrant’s is not eligible for Ship or Swap.)

Go Shopping

This is where the fun comes in. Once the guest has completed the purchase process and the money have been loaded to your My Funds account, you can choose to purchase the gift that the money was originally given for. Or you can use the money towards another gift instead.

Once you’ve selected which items you’d like to use your My Funds credits on, add to cart and check out whenever you’re ready for them to ship. The best thing about My Funds is that they NEVER expire!

You should know that if you decide to opt out of the service after opting in, future gifts will ship directly to you once they’re purchased.

Ready? Earn $100 When You Sign Up

Anyone who signs up for a Bed, Bath & Beyond registry between 1/1/2021-3/31/21 is eligble to receive $100 towards their account. Once you’ve shared your registry with your guests and they purchase more than $500 in gifts, you’ll automatically get $100 in your MyFunds. You can track your gift total and your awards here in your account.

And don’t forget to link it to your Honeyfund!
